Do you recall the iconic Back Bay restaurant Charlie’s Eating and Drinking Saloon, located on the corner of Newbury and Gloucester Streets? Great Cheeseburgers, Bloody Mary’s, incredible Happy Hour?
Well, another icon has moved into that legendary spot and is making it’s own mark on Newbury Street. The Frye Company, whose classic Harness boot holds a treasured place in American culture (and whose line still includes many styles based closely on their 1860 originals) opened it’s flagship Boston store one year ago. Kim Leavitt heads up this grand retail store, with a well groomed staff who is very knowledgeable of their celebrated footwear. With her over 25 years worth of experience in foot apparel, it’s apparent that Kim will lead this shop to it’s ultimate success.
I recently had the pleasure of hosting over 60 of Boston’s finest hospitality representatives at a private shopping night at Frye. With wine flowing, food catered by The Fireplace in Brookline and the crowd trying on well tooled shoes and modeling hand crafted purses, I declared that the night had begun. We were all delighted at the fashionably styled shoes, handbags and briefcases that Frye sells. Quite happily, one of Boston’s leading publicist’s could not have been in the store for more than 10 minutes when he was proudly walking around Frye’s Library Room in his new green leather lace ups!!! With so many styles of footwear and accessories, I can only recommend that you view the entire line of distinguished, yet fashion forward footwear at www.thefryecompany.com.
With mini-massages provided by Bodywaves Therapeutic Massage and shoes being shined by Frye’s celebrity boot black, a good time was had by all. Kim’s generosity permeated throughout the evening when, at the end of the night, she awarded a lucky winner a pair of Frye footwear and another winner a great coffee table book extolling the history of the Frye Company. (By the way, did you know that Frye started here in Marlborough, MA???)
The Frye store is located directly next to my Real Estate office on Gloucester Street and I could not ask for better neighbors. I’ll look forward to you visiting me and the Frye store located at 284 Newbury Street to “Frye One On”!!!
