Biggest New Development Plans in Boston

Boston is a city on the rise, quite literally. There are new residential and industrial buildings popping up all over the city, and new hi-rises are changing the beloved Boston skyline every day. Two areas that don’t get as much attention but are still being widely developed are Dorchester and Brighton. While these neighborhoods are located on the fringe of the greater Boston area, it hasn’t stopped developers from seeing their potential and bringing new projects in. Below are the top three most exciting new projects that are slated for the area.

Dot Block – Dorchester

Dot Block is a planned expansion on Dorchester Ave. At a price tag of more than $150 million, this huge complex will consist of 5 buildings, more than 350 residences, of which 47 will be named as “affordable”, as well as more than 37,000 feet of retail space! It is said to be taking up 5 vacant lots on the 1200 block of the avenue, and does not yet have a completion date.

South Bay Shopping Center – Dorchester

The planned expansion of the already existing South Bay Shopping Center is going to beĀ huge. It already boasts a price of more than $200 million and will add a slew of new features to the area. It’s in the works by retail real estate developer Edens, and will feature 475 new housing units, a 130-room hotel, an AMC movie theater, Wahlburgers, and a parking lot that will hold more than 1,000 cars! It’s expected to be completed 2 years from now, in 2018.

530 Western Ave. – Brighton

While this new development, put on by The Mount Vernon Co. won’t feature any new retail space, it will add almost 140 new rental spaces, and 110 parking spots. The idea behind this new building is to provide luxury housing without the high prices that are found downtown. Studios will start at around $2,600 and two-beds will start at around $3,000, allowing young professionals who don’t want to break the bank the luxury they require.
