Mayor Walsh’s Annual Rose Garden Party Recap

Posted on

GardenPartyThe 19th Annual Rose Garden Party bloomed again this year at the Kelleher Rose Garden in the Back Bay Fens.  Mayor Martin J. Walsh and Ms. Lorrie Higgins served as honorary event chairs of the Rose Garden Committee, which is comprised of arts institution directors, business leaders, university presidents, and children’s enrichment programming advocates, all of whom support increased awareness of the arts, science, and fitness in our community. This elegant social evening raises money for a series of free arts, cultural and enrichment programs in the Boston park systems.

The balmy night must have been ordered by the Mayor and his committee as it was the most beautiful evening the city has had this spring, with more than 3000 rose bushes in peak bloom with over 300 guests gracing this beautifully manicured garden, just perfect to host this colorful event.  Each year the attendees of this event are encouraged to wear their well decorated garden party hats, chapeaus or fascinators, and the winners are well rewarded for their efforts.  (See Mayor Walsh photo with his Garden Party Contractor hat)

Kelly Tuthill, local WCVB reporter extraordinaire, hosted this event, with The Mayor, The Commissioner of Parks and other dignitaries bestowing upon us their  words of encouragement for us to keep supporting this wonderful cause.

With the sun setting and the breeze billowing, the incomparable Holly Safford of The Catered Affair in Hingham once again outdid herself serving complimentary libations, elegantly plated, scrumptious passed appetizers and a buffet fit for a king, including platters and platters of delectable desserts. As you can imagine, a good time was had by all.
